When you donate a vehicle to Wheels for Good in Kansas City, your gift is picked up right at your door and turned into local support for Heritage for the Blind. We coordinate your donation here in the Kansas City Metro, using nearby tow partners, so giving stays simple and close to home. Whether you’re in Midtown, Brookside, the Crossroads, Waldo, or up in the Northland, we come to you, tow your vehicle for free, and you receive a tax receipt for your records.
Our local towing partners cover Kansas City, MO and surrounding communities like Lee’s Summit, Independence, Blue Springs, Raytown, Liberty, Gladstone, Parkville, and Grain Valley, as well as more rural areas in Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass counties. In denser neighborhoods, we work around narrow streets and busy parking; in outlying areas, we coordinate timing based on routing. Wherever you are in the metro, we handle the pickup and paperwork details so your car, truck, SUV, or other vehicle can start helping people who are blind or visually impaired right here in your wider community.
How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us about your vehicle and location
Share your Kansas City area address and basic details about your vehicle—year, make, model, condition, and whether it runs. This helps us match you with a local tow partner who can safely access your street, driveway, alley, or parking garage anywhere in the Kansas City Metro.
2. Choose a pickup day that works for you
We’ll offer available pickup windows based on your neighborhood. In busier areas like Downtown, Westport, and the Plaza, timing may depend on traffic and parking. In suburbs and rural spots, we group routes for efficiency while still working to find a convenient day for you.
3. Prepare your title and keys before the truck arrives
Before pickup, locate your Missouri title and remove personal items from the vehicle. If your tags are still on, you may remove the plates in line with Missouri DMV guidance. Have the keys ready so our local driver can load the car quickly and minimize time in your driveway or on the street.
4. Meet the driver or arrange a safe key handoff
Most donors meet the tow operator at the vehicle, but if you can’t be home, we’ll walk you through leaving signed title paperwork and keys in a secure spot. This is common with apartment parking, HOA lots, and workplace pickups across Kansas City and surrounding suburbs.
5. We tow it away for free and send your tax receipt
Your vehicle is towed at no cost from anywhere in the Kansas City Metro. After it’s sold, Wheels for Good sends you a tax receipt—typically for at least $500—while the proceeds support Heritage for the Blind’s programs for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Local pickup gotchas
Tight streets, alleys, and Plaza or Midtown parking
Tip: Older Kansas City neighborhoods can have narrow streets, alley access, or tight parking garages. Let us know in advance if large trucks struggle on your block or in your building so we can send the right type of tow truck and avoid rescheduling.
Gated communities, condos, and HOA rules
Tip: If you live in a gated subdivision, condo complex, or HOA-controlled lot, our driver may need an entry code, gate remote, or parking permission. Sharing gate codes and any HOA restrictions ahead of time helps us complete pickup on the first attempt without delays or fines.
Very rural or outlying Missouri addresses
Tip: For donors outside the core Kansas City Metro—such as more rural parts of Cass, Lafayette, or Platte counties—routing can affect how quickly we can get a truck to you. Be flexible on pickup days and provide clear directions or landmarks to make access easier for the tow operator.
Vehicles without wheels or stuck in hard-to-reach spots
Tip: If your vehicle has flat tires, missing wheels, or is stuck behind other cars, tell us upfront. Some situations require special equipment or extra time, especially in dense areas like Downtown or Westport, and we want to send the right truck the first time.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If at-home pickup is difficult for your exact situation—maybe you park in a tight downtown garage, share a small driveway in Waldo, or your vehicle is stored on rural land outside the main metro—there are still options. In some cases, we can arrange to meet you at a more accessible spot, such as a nearby public lot, workplace, or friend’s driveway in a wider neighborhood street. You can also wait until construction, snow, or mud issues clear enough for a flatbed to safely reach the car. Our goal is to find a realistic, safe option that still lets your donation help people who are blind or visually impaired.
Kansas City pickup coverage
Wheels for Good serves the Missouri side of the Kansas City Metro, including Downtown, Crossroads, Midtown, Brookside, Waldo, the Plaza, and the Northland, plus suburbs like Independence, Blue Springs, Lee’s Summit, Raytown, Liberty, Gladstone, and Belton. Pickup within the core metro is often faster, while more rural addresses in Jackson, Clay, Platte, or Cass counties may require extra routing time. For Missouri titles, you’ll sign the title over to our authorized agent and may remove your plates in line with current Missouri Department of Revenue guidance before the tow truck arrives.
